Behind the scenes of the Shanghai Masters with Chef Igor Macchia

Ever wondered what it was like to cook for some of the world’s greatest tennis players?

To mark the beginning of ANZ’s five-year sponsorship of the Shanghai Rolex Masters we take a behind-the-scenes look at some of the integral support staff who helped give pro players an advantage on the court.

Known for its incredible service and delicious food, the Shanghai Rolex Masters has been voted the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Tournament of the Year by attending players since 2009. And to understand what is needed to make this experience so good, we speak with Igor Macchia, specialist chef to the players.

Igor is a two-star Michelin chef and each year, flies to Shanghai from his restaurant in northern Italy to add some European flavour to the renowned tournament kitchen. Working around the clock with a team of almost 300 chefs, many from Hilton Shanghai, the official host of the Shanghai Masters, Igor tell us about what it’s like creating food for some of the biggest names in tennis and why it’s important to have a great support team.
